Barry “Bazmatronics” Edwards — Musician, Composer & Improviser
Barry “Bazmatronics” Edwards is a Wales-based musician, composer and improviser working across free improvisation, electro-acoustic music and film composition.
His work explores texture, found sound and the relationship between chaos and structure, creating immersive sound worlds that move between live performance and cinematic composition.
Practice & sound
Working with electric guitar, electronics and acoustic sources, Edwards combines extended techniques, live processing and improvisation to develop a highly textural and evolving musical language.
His practice sits between experimental music and contemporary composition, drawing on influences from free improvisation and modern film scoring.
Influences
His musical approach is informed by artists such as Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, John Butcher and Mary Halvorson, alongside composers including Hildur Guðnadóttir, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ben Frost and Max Richter.
Live work
As Bazmatronics, Edwards performs solo and in collaborative settings, focusing on electro-acoustic improvisation and exploratory sound. His work has been presented at experimental music venues and series across the UK, including appearances within established improvisation contexts such as Mopomoso.
Recent performances include appearances at the Midlands Arts Centre (MAC), Birmingham, and in Brighton supporting Ken Vandermark, placing his work alongside leading figures in contemporary improvised music.
He has worked, recorded or shared stages with a range of internationally recognised improvisers including Paul Dunmall, Mark Sanders, Neil Metcalfe, Mark Hanslip, Gerry Hemingway, Colin Somervell and Paal Nilssen-Love.
His performances are suited to experimental venues, galleries and festivals, and he is actively developing opportunities across the UK and Europe, with a particular focus on progressive scenes in London, the North of England and Berlin.

Film, T.V & Sync
Alongside his live work, Edwards composes for film, television and media under his own name, Barry John Edwards.
His music blends electro-acoustic sound, ambient composition and improvisation, and is particularly suited to documentary, drama and sound-led storytelling.
His work has been featured on Netflix and Apple TV, with a growing catalogue of material available for sync and commission.

“There was a genuine feeling of having been taken on a musical journey with Edwards genuinely succeeding in his aim of creating “order from chaos.”
